Hattowen is the longest night of the year in late October, when the fabric between worlds is at its thinnest, and ghostlike visions of figures in other dimensions drift about. The people of Ranebo have unique customs to confuse & disorient these specters in order to ward them away- they paint their homes with illusions & giant eyes, turn signs the wrong way, and dress up in frightening costumes!
But this year, something feels a little different... An otherworldly chill is in the air and there is talk of specters and spirits coming through to Ranebo to wreak havoc at their worst. Will this month bring the usual spooks and scares, or is something far darker brewing in the mist? Header art by Gizzle

Pumpkin Carving
|
During the months where the leaves turn orange, and Hattowen draws near, many people from all over Ranebo participate in pumpkin carving competitions to show off their festivities! Even in non-competitive groups, some Ranebopets just like to show off their creativity, and spend time creating pumpkin art with their close friends and family.
--- For this prompt, draw your Ranebopet carving- or having finished carving their very own pumpkin for the Hattowen celebrations! |
Ghoworm Hunt
|
Ghoworms are very shy, only found outside of their caves in October, and have spooky glow-in-the-dark markings that resemble the face of a ghost. Often found in hanging from silken strings on their backsides, they like to hang from the trees in large groups, truly an eerie sight to come upon in a dark forest!
--- For this prompt, draw your Ranebopet hunting for Ghoworms! Are they trapped in their silky string, sneaking up on them with a bug net, or perhaps they're saving them from a hungry Bakiri! Ghoworms come in six colors! All have the same rarity! |
Mothmin Sighting
|
Mothmin are very timid creatures who only appear during Auter (Autumn) months. They can be attracted with a tinted lantern which is made to look like another Mothmin when lit! They vibrate when they are either very happy or very scared.
--- Draw your character trying to catch or befriend Mothmin with a tinted lantern! These small, fuzzy creatures are very flighty and are only seen around Auter (Autumn). Mothmin come in 4 colors, with some appearing more rare than others! Orange Mothmin: 66% chance Pink Mothmin: 33% chance Albino Mothmin: 1% Chance Cursed (Blue): Only available with the use of a blue tinted lantern! |
Costume Crusaders
|
During Hattowen, it's tradition to dress up in spooky costumes and scare your friends, or the local community, if you're feeling devious! Though some Ranebopets prefer to stick to the old ghostly tradition, others take the opportunity to get dolled up like a princess. What kind of costume does your Ranebopet wear? A froofy dress, a boring old ghost sheet, or maybe they've got a full on cosplay going on!
--- Draw your Ranebopet and their friend (another Ranebopet, or a familiar) both dressed up for the holiday season. |

Hallogrove Passage
Hallogrove is a dark, swampy forest along the Boreli river. Each year during Hattowen, daring types from local cities and villages like Buzzdew challenge each other to make the frightening passage through its depths during the chilly nights of Hattowen. This year, however, there are far more unusual sounds coming from the grove...
It's finally nightfall, and after a long trek, you've finally reached the gates of Hallogrove. A rough-looking Bakiri by the gate glances over, eyeing you up and down. “Yer lookin to make the passage through Hallogrove too, eh? We've had a few come through here already...." He shuffles over to a large rusted gate, prying it open. "But....are ye sure about this? I should have ye know... not everyone that goes in comes back out. Especially what with the increase in rift activity- rig- ...What? Nah, ye didn't hear me say nothin'. Carry on ye way."
Meet MortonMort is a rough-around-the-edges Bakiri with a grizzled exterior, but a soft heart within. He’s the gatekeeper of the entrance to the Hallogrove forest for the yearly Passage.
Mort is a retired explorer and now operates riverboat services on the Boreli river. He self-describes as having worn many hats-- figuratively and literally! Additionally, he's accidentally dropped hints that he may have been involved in top-secret operations many years ago, but is extremely tight-lipped about the details. Mort is a heavy-type Bakiri with greyish-purple markings and one visible golden-orange eye, the other always covered with an eyepatch. He always wears his utility belt but doesn't always wear his captain's hat. |
